Sensory play with pasta

An activity that Sunnyboy always enjoys is playing with dried food such as pasta in a large tub. In the tub we also put utensils and household objects suitable for scooping, filling and pouring and we use objects made of different materials so he can make different sounds. Sometimes we add other objects and small toys, such as little toy insects and bugs, that Sunnyboy can dig out and cover with the pasta. We've done this activity with pasta, rice and oats but the possible variations are endless. Next we are going to try messy play with foods such as jelly (Jell-O), cooked spaghetti and porridge.

  2. I like this sensory play. It's simple and it really does keep kids entertained a long time comapred to other activities. Thanks for linking up to KFF. Enjoy your weekend!

  3. My girls LOVE playing with rice! We have also enjoyed pasta and beans. I think I'm going to have to draw the line somewhere before jam...I just don't have it in me! I am planning to get brave enough to do some pudding painting!

  4. I've been doing more sensory play with my boys lately but haven't tried pasta yet...we had an unfortunate beans-in-the-ear incident a couple of years ago, so I'm staying away from those.

  7. We do sensory play with many items, including pasta. Love the rotini though! And I had not added spiders and other toys....I'll do that next time! Great idea! Thanks!!

  8. This would be something my daughter would love! We've done dried beans before, but not pasta. I'm impressed that you will be attempting the messy play, too! That's a brave woman. ;)

  10. Just to avoid confusion I thought I should clarify that here in the UK jelly is the word we use for a gelatin dessert (is it Jell-O in America?). I'm certainly not brave enough to do messy play with jam! :)

  11. Another fun one is leftover cooked pasta! They love to squish it between their little fingers, particularly spaghetti! It's messy though :)

  12. This looks like a lot easier to clean up than the wheat or rice that we usually use! Great tip!
