Cuisenaire numbers in colour
These boxes of Cuisenaire rods, which cost 25p for each box, were by far our best charity shop find this week. The coloured wooden rods are named after their inventor, Georges Cuisenaire (1891-1976), a Belgian primary school teacher, who published a book on their use in 1952 called Les nombres en couleurs. There are 10 sizes of rods measuring 1 cm to 10 cm and rods of equal length are assigned the same colour.

Fantastic find! I remember playing with Cuisenaire rods as a kid, they're lots of fun and can be used in so many ways...
