The Brewery was built in the 1870s and had several owners before it was closed in 1889 and used as a stabling. In 1902 Frederick Dale moved his brewery into the premises that still bears his name. Sold to Whitbread in 1955, brewing ceased in 1958 and the site was used as a depot and stores until the 1970s. It now houses a variety of shops and other businesses. Twenty years ago one of those shops was a small alternative bookshop where I worked as a member of a volunteer collective.

ReplyDeleteI wish we had old, old buildings and history here in Utah. But as it is the 'white' history began in 1847ish. No buildings older than 1847 are here. Thank heavens we do have some Ancient Indian sites, but they are very few and in-between.
ReplyDeleteI loved living in Norway because their history goes way back. I was able to see many old churches, homes, viking ships, you name it they have it. I loved that.
