More games with old calendars

Last year I posted about games with old calendars and this week we did some more activities with some old calendars we'd saved. First we made another matching game with an animal calendar.



Then we used the pages from a calendar with pictures of scenery to make sticker pictures.

This was my picture.


Sunnyboy did all these.










Sunnyboy really enjoyed this activity and telling stories about the pictures he created, with a running commentary on what was happening as he put each sticker on the page. A bonus of using a calendar with glossy pages was that he could peel off the stickers again and move them around as he told the story.

Spiral

The theme for February's Unplugged Project at Unplug Your Kids was Spiral. We went looking spirals when we were out and about around town and these are some that we found.





















Last year we did a project looking for swirls in our garden.

A caterpillar cake

The theme for this week's Unplugged Project at Unplug Your Kids is Homemade.

Sunnyboy recently saw a boxed caterpillar party cake for £5 at our local supermarket and decided to buy it. I explained that it was expensive and suggested we buy the ingredients to make our own cake instead. Our caterpillar cake didn't look like the one in the shop, or even much like a caterpillar, but it was a lot cheaper and Sunnyboy was very pleased with it.

Rosewater

The theme for this week's Unplugged Project at Unplug Your Kids is Petal.

We made rosewater, inspired by Lisa at 5 Orange Potatoes. All the instructions can be found at her post on Making Rosewater Method #2. We picked the rose petals from the rosebush outside our house, and used witch hazel extract to make the alcohol/water solution. We'll add more rose petals in a few days and then will need to wait two to three weeks for the results.





If you're interested in nature crafts and activities for children then 5 Orange Potatoes is the most fantastic resource. Lisa is an incredibly creative and talented mama and reading her blog I'm always inspired by her love of nature and the magical environment she's created for her two daughters.

Transportation

The theme for this week's Unplugged Project at Unplug Your Kids is Transportation.

Sunnyboy did some crayon rubbings of different vehicles,



and Nozy took some pictures at work to show Sunnyboy.

Words and Humpty Dumpty & friends

The theme for this week's Unplugged Project at Unplug Your Kids is Words. I hadn't really come up with any ideas for this theme but, while I have been thinking about it today, Sunnyboy has been carrying out his own project on Words. These are the written words that he has been curious about today:

ANDY
On the bottom of Woody's boot it says ANDY and on the other boot Nozy has written Sunnyboy's name. Sunnyboy has been fascinated by this today and we talked about it for some time.



IN THE GARDEN
This is the sign that we put on our front door when we go out in the back garden. As usual Sunnyboy wanted to check what it said before I stuck it on the door.



HOW TO CHANGE YOUR ENTIRE LIFE BY DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
He wanted me to read him the title of the book I am reading.



DADDY'S LITTLE MONKEY
He wore one of his favourite T-shirts today. He loves the slogan.



VERY STICKY GLUE
He has been intrigued by the words in this little illustration in his Humpty Dumpty puzzle book.



Sunnyboy's favourite nursery rhyme is Humpty Dumpty and for Book Sharing Monday I've chosen one of the books that he's been 'reading' today. Humpty Dumpty and friends is a nursery rhyme jigsaws book illustrated by Alison Atkins. It contains five jigsaw puzzles with accompanying nursery rhymes.

sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty
had a great fall,
All the king's horses
and all the king's men,
Couldn't put Humpty
together again.'

Books and Maisy's Bus

This week's Unplugged Project is being hosted by Chronicle of an Infant Bibliophile and the theme is Books. One of Sunnyboy's all-time favourite book characters is Maisy Mouse (from the series of books by Lucy Cousins) and this week he bought a Maisy cuddly toy, so we decided to do a Maisy project.



First we went round the house and looked for Maisy things (all of these are secondhand).



Then we read Maisy books,





did Maisy puzzles,



watched Maisy videos,



and played Maisy games.



For Book Sharing Monday we chose a Maisy Mouse book called Maisy's Bus.

Water

The theme for this week's Unplugged Project at Unplug Your Kids is Water. We put lots of different containers and objects in the bath and then experimented with pouring water. It's a simple activity that Sunnyboy has done many times before but still finds endlessly fascinating.
