We are lucky to have lots of great
museums in our city and recently we went with our home education group to the Museum of Classical Archaeology, which houses a collection of plaster casts of Greek & Roman sculpture. We took sketchbooks with us.

Cast of the Farnese Herakles
Then
last weekend we made our own plaster cast using a vinyl glove and plaster of Paris. We poured the plaster of Paris into the glove, tied it with an elastic band and used two more elastic bands to hang it up outside while it set.
When the plaster had set we cut off the vinyl glove,
and Sunnyboy painted the hand.
By this time the hand was missing a couple of fingers and, as many of the casts in the museum were also missing fingers, limbs and other body parts, we thought it looked quite authentic.
